Reading in Los Angeles

I'm giving a reading in LA! I'm taking part in Rattle's Spring Reading Series on Sunday, May 10, 2014 at 5:00 PM at Flintridge Bookstore & Coffeehouse. My fellow readers are Love Poem Issue contributors Paula Bonnell and Richard Widerkehr. If you're in the LA metro area I'd love to see you!

I'll be reading my poem from issue #43, "Crown for a Young Marriage," plus some other stuff. I was really thrilled when this poem was accepted for publication. I was pretty sure that no contemporary lit mag would be interested in publishing a crown of love sonnets in rhyming iambic pentameter, so I was especially pleased and grateful when Rattle not only accepted it, but championed it (and me).

Failing Famously

I'm in Conduit's 25th issue! The magazine just posted the contributor list for its blockbuster compilation of poems about failing, failures, and ways to fail:

Holy guacamole.

I'm in Weave

Was so excited to receive my contributor copy of Weave Magazine in the mail last week. My poem "Lakeland" is featured on p. 11. If you'd like a copy, you can order it here. The Weave community is fantastic--vibrant, diverse, and supportive. And I'm looking forward to meeting intrepid editrix and poet Laura Davis in the flesh at AWP! Great stuff all around. Getting real jazzed for 2014.

Headed West

I am going to AWP for the first time this year! I'm not sure what to expect, but I'm looking forward to reconnecting with friends from the Sewanee Writers' Conference and NYU. Also looking forward to visiting Seattle! I did an exchange program there through the Network of Sacred Heart Schools when I was in the seventh grade, but I haven't been back since. I remember being terrified on the elevator to the top of the Space Needle. To be fair though, I was terrified most of the time. I'm excited to explore the city as an adult, and for some good, lit-nerdy fun.

Upcoming Publication in Rattle/Pushcart Nomination for 2015!

I recently got some very exciting news! My poem, "Crown for a Young Marriage" was accepted by Rattle for publication in their upcoming "love poems" issue (March 2014). And editor Timothy Green was kind enough to let me know that he plans to nominate my poem for a 2015 Pushcart Prize! My husband Sean spotted this awesome tweet on back in December:

I'm very grateful to Tim, Alan Fox, and everyone at Rattle for their support of my work. This kind of encouragement really means a great deal to an emerging writer. I'm thrilled to be a member of the Rattle community of poets. Follow them @rattlepoetry and at facebook.com/RattleMagazine
